Since 2018, Ihor Kiiashko was serving an illegal sentence in colony No. 11 of Nyzhnii Novhorod region, until last December he was transferred 5 000 km deep into the Russian Federation – to IK No. 3 in the city of Irkutsk. The transfer led to exhaustion and exacerbation of his chronic thrombophlebitis – in the spring he suffered prolonged cramps in both limbs. The prisoner was not provided with any medical examination or aid.

“This transfer lasted more than a month. The reasons why they decided to transfer him are not clear and unknown to me. Ihor has hypertension, and in prison he was also diagnosed with thrombophlebitis. This disease is a consequence of abuse and beatings during detention,” Ihor’s wife, Maryna Kiiashko-Voloshchenko, commented to the Association.

According to Maryna, after February 24, she was no longer able to contact her husband either by letter or by phone. Now they communicate through a lawyer who visits Kiiashko from time to time.

As a reminder, lawyer Ihor Kiiashko, was detained on April 10, 2018 in Nyzhnii Novhorod where he went to get medicine for his son. At first, Ihor was accused of smuggling military equipment from Russia, and then of espionage. In 2018, during a closed hearing, the Nyzhnii Novhorod Regional Court sentenced Kiiashko to 8 years in a strict regime colony.
