We continue to look for ways to bring Ukrainian nuclear workers home.
On 23 April, on the initiative of our partners Truth Hounds, we met with the representative of the Holy See — the Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine, His Excellency Archbishop Visvaldas Kulbokas.
The meeting was attended by wives of the imprisoned nuclear workers, the Deputy Mayor of Enerhodar, and representatives of the Union of Relatives of Kremlin Political Prisoners and Truth Hounds.
We spoke about the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and in Enerhodar, the conditions in which Ukrainian nuclear workers are being held, and the work already underway to secure their release. We placed particular emphasis on the fact that detaining licensed personnel is a tool Russia uses to maintain control over the plant. A prolonged occupation of this kind is dangerous — both for the people held and for the security of all of Europe.
We asked the Holy See to help free Ukrainian nuclear workers. The representative of the Holy See shared the challenges they face in efforts to release Ukrainians from Russian captivity, and expressed openness to further cooperation.
This work continues, and we keep exploring every possible path to bring Ukrainian nuclear workers home.
