The Association of Relatives of Political Prisoners of the Kremlin is joining the creation of the “Archive of Ukraine’s War of Independence” – a space dedicated to preserving documentary evidence of the Russian–Ukrainian war.
The idea behind the Archive is to consolidate and safeguard evidence of the war within a single, secure state-run repository, where each document will have long-term value and proper protection. The Archive is intended not only to preserve the memory of the events of the war, but also to serve as a foundation for establishing truth, justice, and historical accountability.
On December 2, 2025, Ihor Kotelianets, Head of the Association of Relatives of Political Prisoners of the Kremlin, took part in a meeting of the Interagency Working Group coordinating the creation and development of the Archive of Ukraine’s War of Independence. The Working Group brings together representatives of state authorities, civil society, and international partners to ensure coordinated efforts to preserve documentary evidence of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
Among the Archive’s key objectives are preserving historical memory for future generations; building an evidence base for international courts and investigations; supporting processes of transitional justice, memorialization, and peacebuilding; and ensuring access to the truth for researchers, journalists, and the wider public.
As part of this work, our organization is contributing to the development of an integrated information space for potential contributors to the Archive. In particular, on December 17, a questionnaire was distributed to civil society initiatives engaged in documenting events related to Ukraine’s War of Independence.
More about the idea of the Archive of Ukraine’s War of Independence can be found on the Government Portal.
